I bought the £3.99 Lacura body cream (OUAI dupe!) from Aldi before I decided to splurge on the £38 OUAI one, so now I have both to use. It works out well because I can give you my thoughts after using both on a daily (alternative) basis.

OUAI is a modern hair and body care brand founded by celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin. It is known for its high-quality products that blend ingredients with refreshing scents.

Aldi, on the other hand, is known for its excellent dupes, from The Ordinary hair serum to Jo Malone candles. Their bamboo washcloths are a personal favourite of mine; I stock up whenever they’re in stock.

What are the similarities?

Both include similar wording:

  • formulated with coconut oil
  • nourishing cupuaçu butter

They are both in a 212 g tub, although the OUAI one is nearly twice as big. The OUAI tub is heavier and feels like it’s made of nicer material.

Differences in texture & smell – OUAI vs OUAI dupe

The texture is almost the same. The OUAI body cream feels slightly thicker and less gloopy.

They smell nearly the same: very floral, rose. I got the smell called ‘Melrose Place’ from OUAI. There is only one generic one from Lacura.

The thing that’s impressed me the most with OUAI is I apply it at night, and I can still smell it on my skin in the morning. I’ve never known this with a moisturiser before (and I’ve tried a lot!)

Normally, once it’s soaked into the skin, that’s it. Lacura doesn’t smell in the morning but for the price, I wasn’t expecting it to.

Smooth skin without the grease

I haven’t used either for long, so I can’t say whether one is better than the other at improving skin over time. But after applying them, my skin feels amazingly soft.

Neither makes my skin sticky or greasy, and both soak in quickly.

The OUAI feels slightly thicker and, therefore more hydrating and better quality (to me).

So, is it worth it?

The Aldi OUAI dupe is a great product and is worth buying, especially for £3.99. It is a lovely moisturiser.

With anything, if you want more luxury, you have to spend more. The OUAI body cream is great if you have the extra money to spend. It’s thicker, feels nicer to the touch, and stays on for longer.

Will I keep buying OUAI? Yes, absolutely, but I will limit myself to one every 2 months (£19 per month feels more palatable!).
