After using disposable razors for years, the final straw came when I went to use my last one, and it snapped. I was fuming as I was shaving my legs before a deep tissue massage!
I started looking online because the thought of spending a tenner in Boots for a Venus filled me with dread. I was intrigued when I found Estrid, who sells razors at an affordable price and offers subscriptions. I’ve used them for a while, so I decided to write about my experience. They’re now in High street shops, so they’re getting pretty popular.
A couple of features worth mentioning about Estrid:
- they have vegan coating on the soothing strips
- for every purchase, they donate to charity
- membership – you get the razor & replacement blades, then choose how often you need replacement blades.
- choose out of several colours
- comes with a sucker for the wall
- they now sell shave gel and exfoliant
My first order was £7.95; it included the steel razor, 2 blades and wall mount:
Why did I choose Estrid?
I’ve been targeted with a few razors on Instagram lately but decided on Estrid due to:
- The price. It’s good value.
- It’s cruelty-free and vegan – some razors use animal-products in the strips but not Estrid.
- I can easily manage my online subscription – I can cancel orders easily, request razors at different times if I need them sooner or want to push back a delivery.
- It looks nice and feels like a quality product
The razor
The body is steel, and it feels extremely well made and expensive. I’m used to disposable razors, which weigh next to nothing, so holding this was a bit of a shock—it’s not light.
It has 5 blades and a smoothing strip above and below them. The light blue part feels very smooth; it reminds me of the floor in a swimming pool—slippery. It helps the razors glide smoothly over your skin. After using it a few times, I can definitely agree with this—it feels very smooth on my skin, there’s no pulling or tugging of hairs, and even over my knees (where I usually get cuts), I haven’t cut myself once.
The wall mount
It’s pretty simple and I like it. It’s in the same colour as the razor and feels like its made of the same material – solid steel. It isn’t anything fancy – you lick the plastic part and push it against the wall which helps it grip. It has a small flap so if you need to move it, you can use the flap to bring it off the wall.
UPDATE Sep 2024: Unfortunately, this has fallen from my shower enough times now that I’ve had to stop using it. It also broke the razor. This is one of those unfortunate times when something lovely and great quality isn’t ‘fit for purpose’ because it’s just too heavy.
Would you recommend it?
Yes, definitely. I’ve been with Estrid since my first order in Oct 2021. I’ve never cut myself because it’s easy to use, and the blades last ages.
It’s smooth—like I’ve mentioned, it hasn’t cut my knees, which usually happens no matter how careful I am. It’s also great for getting into smaller or delicate areas. I trust it, unlike the disposable, where I’d draw breath before using it.
Cons:
At first my subscription blades were every few weeks. I ended up far too many as I kept forgetting to change the frequency.
As mentioned above, it’s a shame that the sucker/holder thing doesn’t stay put for long due to the weight. I’m, therefore, unable to keep the razor in the shower, so I need to remember to grab it each time. It’s broken my razor on a few occasions, which, as you can imagine, is really frustrating.
How much is it?
It costs £7.95 for the steel handle, holder, and 2 blades. Subsequent months it’s £9.99 for 4 blades. I’ve set mine at every 3 months.
It’s cheaper than razors such as Venus, which you can buy from supermarkets. Venus razors on Boots.com range from £7 – £13, and a blade pack of 3 is around £8 – £10.

Other Estrid products
They’ve branched out and now offer a wider range of products, including sets of shaving gels, balms, waxing kits, and more.
I’ve bought the ‘precision razor’ I use to dermaplane my face. See my full blog on dermaplaning here.
UPDATE Dec 2021
I’ve been using the razor for nearly 2 months and can honestly say, I’m impressed. It glides over skin, doesn’t leave me with red bumps and is easy to clean (I take the head off and clean it whilst showering). It isn’t easy to take off the wall holder whilst in the shower – the handle gets slippy when wet so it’s hard to pick it off the holder without the holder also coming off – this is the only negative so far.
UPDATE Sep 2024
I’m still using my Estrid razor! I’ve had problems with the sucker falling from my shower. I now use it on a shelf to store the razor horizontally. I like to keep the razor off surfaces because the outer strip gets soggy when it’s wet. It’s odd and ruins the blade.
