As a millennial, I feel like we’ve been through it all—dial-up internet, avocado toast debates, and now the realisation that our 40s are nearly here, bringing new challenges for our skin, hair, and joints. At 37, I’ve started noticing the subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) signs of ageing. My skin sometimes looks grey, my hair feels thinner, and my nails seem more fragile than ever.
Turns out, this isn’t just bad luck—it’s biology. Collagen, the protein that keeps our skin firm, our hair strong, and our joints feeling good, starts to decline after we hit 25. Add in the stress of #adulting, and the effects can show up even faster.
That’s why I decided to try Ancient + Brave’s True Collagen powder. If you’re in the same boat—wondering how to keep everything looking and feeling its best as we juggle life, work, and everything in between—this might be just what you’re looking for. Let me tell you what I’ve learned so far and how this little addition to my routine has made a difference.
I’ve used Ancient + Brave True Collagen since April 2024 and it’s safe to say I’m going to be a customer for a long time. Let me tell you why.

Why did I start with collagen?
At the start of 2024, I began looking into collagen after a conversation with my manager. She shared her struggles with skin and nail health and mentioned how much she had loved using Ancient + Brave True Collagen. Hearing her experience got me thinking: I already invest in skincare products to help my skin, so why not take a proactive step? Supporting my skin from the inside out, before visible issues even arise, felt like a smart way to stay ahead of the game. She’s 10 years older so it felt like a good time for me to start.
What is collagen and why do you need it?
Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body and is critical for maintaining the structure of skin, hair, nails, and joints. It acts as a building block, providing strength and elasticity to the skin while supporting healthy hair and strong nails.
Collagen also plays a very important role in joint health, acting as a cushion to help maintain mobility and reduce discomfort.
Unfortunately for us, collagen production starts to decline from the age of 25. In our 30s and 40s, this decline becomes more noticeable, with visible effects such as reduced skin elasticity, fine lines, weaker hair, and more brittle nails. Joint stiffness and discomfort may also start to appear. Stress and a poor diet won’t help it either.
Why Ancient + Brave True Collagen stands out
Ancient + Brave’s True Collagen is a premium supplement designed to support your body’s natural collagen levels. One of the standout features of this product is its purity. It is made with hydrolysed collagen peptides, which are highly bioavailable, meaning they are easily absorbed by the body for maximum benefit.
Hydrolysed peptides explained:
Our True Collagen contains hydrolysed collagen peptides which are a more available and absorbable form of amino acids, making it easy for our body to utilise. Collagen exists in nature as a very large, complex molecule constructed from lots of long chains of polypeptides. The collagen molecule itself is far too big to be absorbed across the gut wall, so it needs to be broken down during digestion into smaller chains called peptides. Once absorbed, these peptides are available to contribute to collagen renewal within bones, skin and connective tissue. ‘Hyrdolysed’ simply means ‘unchaining’ the long protein strands into smaller ‘peptides’ so we can absorb them more readily. This process is like having them ‘predigested’, making them more bioactive so we can take them up and absorb them easily to build important tissues.

The collagen powder is tasteless and dissolves easily into both hot and cold drinks.

Packaging
The powder comes in a pouch unless you’ve chosen to get each delivery in a glass jar. If you buy a subscription, your first delivery is a glass jar then pouches afterwards.
Customer service
From my experience, the customer service is excellent. Since my subscription started, I’ve always had a pouch. I emailed them asking if it would be possible in my next order to get a glass jar. They replied within hours, and I had one in my next order.
The benefits I’ve seen after taking Ancient + Brave True Collagen
After four weeks of taking Ancient + Brave True Collagen daily, I started to notice some remarkable benefits, which I’ll share below:
Brighter, more radiant skin: My skin feels and looks more hydrated, with a noticeable glow. The dull, ‘grey’ tone I had before has been replaced with a fresher, more awake appearance.
Stronger, healthier nails: I’ve always struggled with brittle nails, especially after 20 years of biting them. Even after I stopped, they would break easily and never grow long. Since taking this collagen, my nails have become much stronger, and they grow so quickly I have to file them every week—which has never happened before! I no longer need nail hardener varnishes, as my nails no longer bend and are in the best shape they’ve ever been.
Incredible hair growth: My hair has never grown as quickly as it has since I started taking this collagen. While I knew hair growth was a key benefit, actually seeing how much it has grown has been genuinely surprising. The results have completely exceeded my expectations.
Joint support: Hydrolysed collagen plays an essential role in maintaining joint health. While I’ve read numerous reviews where people report reduced stiffness and discomfort over time, I’ve also noticed a subtle improvement in how my joints feel after consistent use.
Boosted energy and overall well-being: Collagen supports the health of connective tissues, which has noticeably contributed to my physical comfort and vitality. When I pair it with my Verve V80 daily greens drink, the combination is incredible—I feel energised and ready to tackle the day like never before.

How long does it take to work?
As I’ve mentioned above, I started seeing improvements to my hair, skin and nails after 4 weeks of taking it daily. On their website, they list other changes that can take longer:
- 4-16 weeks – skin hair and nails support
- 3 months – muscle and strength (combined with resistance training)
- 3-6 months – tendon support (combined with resistance training)
- 4-6 months – joint support
- 12 months – bone density support
How do you take collagen and how does it taste?
I take slightly less than a full scoop daily to stretch my delivery schedule to 6 weeks instead of 4. This still aligns with the recommended dose of 5-10g daily.
We recommend a dose of 5 – 10g per day for optimal results.
From the Ancient + Brave website
Simply add 1 ritual scoop or 2 heaped teaspoons to any drink of choice or stir into food.Approx 40 servings
I do this to save money; instead of a charge every 4 weeks, it’s every 6.
How does it taste?
It’s advertised as tasteless, and while I find it blends seamlessly in my greens drink, I do notice a slight texture change when added to coffee—though nothing unpleasant.
How do you drink it?
It can go in coffee but I prefer to have it with my Verve V80 greens powder and creatine, in a shake with water and lemon juice. It dissolves easily, isn’t gritty and doesn’t clump up. I have it in a morning before anything else – including my coffee which I’ll talk about now…
Very important tip – make it part of an enjoyable habit
….or you might forget it.
I make collagen a part of my morning routine by mixing it into a shake with Verve greens, creatine, and lemon juice. It blends easily and sets me up for the day, all while letting me enjoy my coffee guilt-free.
Importantly, it doesn’t leave a weird taste in my mouth so I can still enjoy my coffee just as much as before.
I’m not sure if there’s an ideal time of day to take it. I can’t see this on their website anywhere.

Collagen and greens powder- a match made in heaven
In July, I tried Verve greens, which is a daily powder for better health. Greens contain many vitamins and minerals that help with energy levels, mental clarity, and much more. I tried it in July 2024 for a few weeks, then picked it back up in January 2025. I’m having my A&B collagen with Verve and creatine together with water in the morning.
Have a read of my Verve greens powder review here.
